This guide covers every detail from eligibility to your final joining letter.
1. GDS Post Profiles & Responsibilities
Under the 2026 engagement schedule, there are three primary designations. Understanding these roles helps you choose the right preference during the application process.
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
The BPM is the administrative head of the Gramin Dak Seva branch. They handle the overall management of the Branch Post Office (BO), including the promotion of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and government schemes.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
ABPMs support the BPM in daily functions, including the sale of stamps, stationery, and mail delivery. They are also responsible for carrying out door-to-door banking services.
Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks work in Departmental Offices (Sub Post Offices/Head Post Offices). Their primary job includes handling mail, receipts, and assisting the local postmaster.
2. Salary Structure (TRCA) 2026
The salary for GDS is provided as Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). For the current year, the scales are as follows:

3. Selection Process & Merit Calculation
Selection for India Post GDS 2026 is fully automated. No interviews or exams are conducted. The system prepares a merit list based on the marks obtained in your 10th Standard (Matriculation).
How Marks are Calculated:
- Percentage: Calculated up to 4 decimal places for accuracy.

- Tie-Breaking: If two candidates have the same marks, the elder candidate is preferred.
4. Document Verification (DV) Checklist
