Covid-19: Nine Omicron cases detected in Rajasthan, India's tally climbs to 21

Rajasthan's Jaipur. This comes on a day seven people in Maharashtra tested positive for the new variant and one case was detected in Delhi.

The total tally of Omicron cases in India is now 21.

The genome sequencing of samples of nine people of a family that came to the state from South Africa on December 5 confirmed the Omicron variant.

The state health department has isolated the people who came in contact with the nine Omicron patients.

The health department said that samples of 34 people, that included nine members of the family and people who came in contact with them were taken, of which nine people have been found to be positive for the Omicron variant. The remaining 25 people have tested negative.

The department said that one family from Sikar district's Ajitgarh also came in contact with the nine Omicron patients, adding that the family was traced, tested and has tested negative.
