West Bengal pourasabha vote live result:

On Sunday, the BJP had called for West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to declare the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls null and void in "view of rampant violence and rigging". The party had also written to the State Election Commission contending that the polls had been "made a farce".

Kolkata: Votes for 144 wards of West Bengal's Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be counted today. Polling had taken place amid tight security, with COVID-19 protocols at 4,959 polling booths on Sunday. Following the elections, the BJP had called for Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to declare the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls as null and void in "view of rampant violence and rigging".
The court had turned down the plea for central forces. "With the utmost of regret and concern, the BJP would like to put on record that today's polls for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation have been made a farce. Since the morning, for the entire day widespread violence, booth capturing, CC-1, cameras face covered or made to face away from the booth, our agents being driven out of booths, goons of Trinamool Congress (TMC) accompanying voters to the EVM," the BJP had alleged in a letter to the State Election Commission on Sunday

Voting had been marked with chaotic scenes, with a crude bomb being hurled outside a polling booth and injuring a voter outside Taki Boys School in ward 36 of North Kolkata. The BJP alleged that 5-term counsellor Meena Devi Purohit had been physically attacked. In its letter, the party said that others including sitting councillor Vijay Ojha, Brijesh Jha and others had also been attacked, while the Kolkata police "took no action to prevent the incident or to apprehend the culprits" despite being present.

A BJP delegation led by Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari had also held a sit-in strike inside the State Election Commissioner Office, demanding a repoll.

BJP delegation led by LOP Suvendu Adhikari has urged the Governor to take steps to declare polls KMC null and void in view of rampant violence, rigging and Kolkata Police acting for the ruling party. A thorough probe was sought in the locking of opposition MLAs in the hostel," tweeted Governor Dhankhar.

The matter of security for conducting the KMC elections reached the door of Calcutta High Court to Apex Court, with the BJP seeking deployment of central forces.

While the elections had been due for 2020, they were postponed because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Both the TMC and the BJP had fielded candidates in all 144 seats. While they had fought the Assembly polls together, the Left and Congress had contested the KMC polls independently. Incidentally, no party has announced a face for the post of Mayor.

In the 2015 KMC polls, TMC won 114 wards while the Left bagged 15. BJP managed to win six wards, Congress five and others got three. However, many opposition councillors joined the ruling camp later.
